My Pie Story
In January 2012, I made a new year's resolution to learn to make pies. Being a new mom, I wanted to bake treats for my son. My failure at cakes aside, I had warm childhood memories of pie and wanted to provide a similar experience for my son.
My father's parents owned a restaurant in Mathews, Virginia back in the 1940s and 1950s. There, my Oma served up the best Lemon Meringue pie in the world. While I am too young to have enjoyed the restaurant, my fondest memories of my Oma were when she served us lemon meringue pie. When she passed away in 1985, I vowed to never eat lemon meringue pie again... and I kept that promise until I made my resolution. By fall of 2012, I worked up enough nerve to attempt a lemon meringue pie - so I had to eat it. And really, isn't emulating her a better way to honor her memory?
In the 3 years since making my resolution, I have made nearly 1,000 pies of all shapes, sizes and flavors. I get inspiration from magazines, Pinterest and my local grocery store. Welcome to my pie life!
